Broadway Sunday Farmers Market

Event Description:
Weekly Sunday Farmers Market from 11AM-3PM with over 30 farmers and food vendors selling fresh, local, seasonal fruits and veggies, cut flowers, eggs, cheeses, baked goods, preserves, seafood, and meats. Car Free Days at Volunteer Park

Event Description:
Mayor Greg Nickels announced that three streets will be opened to pedestrians and cyclists for three “car-free” Sundays in August and September. By opening select streets, people will be invited to walk, bike, skate, run and play in the street. Sunday, Aug. 24: “Car Free Volunteer Park and 14th Avenue East.” Opens 14th Avenue East from Volunteer Park to East Republican Street, from noon to 6 p.m. during the Peace Concert in the park. The Volunteer Park Western Loop will also be car-free. In addition, Parks and Recreation’s popular Bicycle Saturday and Sunday program is being expanded to include Volunteer Park. Design Review Early Design Guidance Meeting

Event Description:
September 3rd, 2008, 6:30PM. ADDRESS: 224 Broadway E. The proposal is for the constuction fo two buldings including a four-story bulding on the esatern portion of the site (currently a surface parking long) with 80 below-grade parking stalls, 5,000 sq. ft. of commercial use at the ground level and 45 residentail units above and six-story mixed-use bulding on the western portion of the site with 100 below grade parking stalls, 8,000 sq. ft. of ground level commercial use and 68 residentail units above (for a total of 113 units). The existing one-story bank bulding to be demolished. the two buildings are to be construction in two phases.

Community Meeting #4 for John & Summit Park

Event Description:
Wednesday, September 10, 2008 7-8:30PM Seattle Parks and Recreation invites you and your family to a presentation of the preferred concept for the new John & Summit Park. This .21-acre parcel is located at the northeast corner of the intersection of East John Street and Summit Avenue East. Parks held three public meetings to get community input on the design of this park. Landscape architects from Mithun and the Parks project manager have incorporated feedback from the community and Parks managers to arrive at the preferred concept. The 2000 Pro Parks Levy provides funding for planning, design, and construction of this neighborhood park. We encourage you to come see the new concept and share your feedback.

Hugo Literary Series Road Trip

Event Description:
October 24-25 Aimee Bender has been called "Hemingway on an acid trip" by the Los Angeles Times. Her stories blend the real, the unreal and the surreal in tales of potato babies, a grieving librarian who reshelves men along with books and a boy with keys for fingers. She is joined by the speculative fiction write Matt Ruff, who has been compared to Philip K Dick; and Marie Howe, whose sensual poems read like spare, beautiful novels. Plus songs by Laurie Katherine Carlsson
